Here's What Oprah Should Give Away this Earth Day

Dear Oprah -

Since this is the farewell season of The Oprah Winfrey Show, we figured maybe you'd feel especially generous this coming Earth Day and give away some terrific green prizes to your audience members. You'd not only be helping each of them lead greener lives, but you'd also be using your unmatched power of publicity to shine a spotlight on the latest and greatest eco-friendly products.

We asked our 11,000 Ecobunga! Facebook Fans for suggestions on great green gifts you could give away. Here's a round-up of their comments.

The most frequent responses clustered around making the home greener, both inside and out. That included solar and wind power, compost bins, mature trees, a water purification system, reusable shopping bags and water bottles, and even lawn furniture made from recycled milk jugs. In the kitchen, one reader commented that a food dehydrator, a Green Star Juicer, and a Vitamix Blender would encourage veganism.

Parked in the driveway is an electric car -- the Nissan Leaf was the top mention by far, along with the partially electric Chevy Volt. And in the garage, of course, is a bicycle, maybe even one of those nifty cargo bikes, as one fan suggested.

Last but not least, one Ecobungster recommended you simply give away a hug. They wrote, "it's free and doesn't put any negative impact on the planet whatsoever!"

So, Oprah -- whether it's a solar gadget or a solar roof, or a new Electric Leaf or an old Red Maple, we hope you'll consider these great green giveaway ideas. We're sure that no matter what the gift, your audience would give you lots of those planet-friendly hugs in return.
